The Long Road Behind

I believe the classic line is, "Well, at least you're having fun trying!"

I can't imagine anything more removed from reality in our case.

For many, this is a process that takes very little time. There are even those who find themselves pregnant without any sort of effort at all. Unfortunately, we found ourselves outside of the norm and wading deeper and deeper into a process that would cost more than just money.

Married couples leave each other over this. Having seen it from this side, I can understand the burden. It's not about whether she can have your baby, it's about the waiting, the stress, the disappointment. It's about living every single day for the next time you'll hear the biggest letdown of your life. Again. In my wife's case, on her birthday.

Infertility treatment is one of the worst things a healthy relationship can endure. It's a process that, without meaing to, demoralizes, dehumanizes, and downright embarasses you every step of the way. You'll find yourself angry at other pregnant couples, scorning their mere ability to bear children. At the end of it all, the whole thing almost just isn't worth it.

Almost.

Aunt Molly:

I am really impressed with how well you can express your feelings, Jonathan. I am very happy that you and Christy perservered and that Little Max is now on his way!

I can't imagine my life without my three wonderful children and I'm sure that you and Christy will feel the same way after the birth of your baby.

You and Christy have a lot of fun (and frustration!) to look forward to!

Congratulations!!!
