Big Stinker

Again, we've been bad at blogging lately. However, this time, it isn't entirely our fault. It's been a crazy couple of weeks, and it only looks to get crazier in the next couple of weeks!

Early last week, I somehow managed to do something to aggravate something (muscle, nerve, who knows) in my back. Basically, early Monday morning, I developed a sharp, stabbing pain that attacked me whenever I moved or attempted to take a deep breath. Thinking I'd just aggravated a muscle, we called our OB to see what we could do/take and I proceeded to spend the rest of the morning using icepacks, with little relief. Our doc prescribed some heavier drugs that enabled me to fall asleep and feel pretty good for a few hours that night.

Unfortunately, at 2:30 Tuesday morning, I woke with such horrible pain, I didn't know what to do. I couldn't lie down, sit, stand, walk, or even think without severe issues, which of course caused the 35-week pregnant woman to panic and cry. Jon is so wonderful -- he tried his best to calm me down, but in the end, we ended up calling the OB and heading into the ER to get checked out.

They ended up admitting us (after some not-so-pleasant time with 2 EMT trainees trying to insert my IV) and we ended up spending a couple of nights in the hospital. Luckily, after loads of tests and some even better drugs, my back seemed to correct itself, and I'm now feeling somewhat normal.

While at the hospital, we had another visit to our high-risk doctor for an ultrasound to see how Max was dealing with all of the commotion. Well, in the weeks since our last ultrasound, he has continued to grow, as expected. Most of his measurements were in the 39 weeks + range, with his femur length being "out of range", meaning above 40 weeks. However, the fun part was the doc's estimate that he weighed 7 lbs 2 oz AT 35 WEEKS! Sheesh! We know it's only an estimate, but COME ON!!!

The doc also noticed that I may have a little too much amniotic fluid, so we're now going to our OB twice weekly for non-stress tests and we'll be having ultrasounds on Fridays, so we have good information on his size. As of yesterday, he was doing well (good heart rate and movement), and still seems to be breech or sideways. We'll see if he decides to change his position in the next couple of weeks.

His size and position, combined with my questionable back situation, have us thinking that we'll likely be having a c-section, so we decided to go ahead and schedule it for when our doctor will be available to do the procedure, in case he doesn't decide to come earlier.

SOOOO, folks, if Max doesn't decide to arrive early, he will be arriving on November 16th in the afternoon. That's TWO WEEKS, people! Are you freaking out?!? (We certainly are!)

It's so strange to finally be reaching the end of this long journey! In half a month, we'll be meeting our little guy, and everything in our world will change.

I'm so sorry to hear about your back, but am glad you're better now. Wow, two weeks. Exciting!!
