It's been a rocky couple of weeks here in the Larkin house, hence our lack of a blog post last week. Things have been crazy and busy and we're finally starting to see some light at the end of the roller coaster tunnel. Now we're just hoping that there's not another crazy climb or drop awaiting us on the outside.
To catch you up, the week before last we bid a tearful farewell to our beloved kitty, Sofie (Soso). From what we can tell, she'd had some sort of stroke that left her unable to jump and at least partially blind. She deteriorated quickly over a particularly rough couple of days, so we felt we had no choice but to let her go. Luckily, Max is young enough that he hadn't formed a strong attachment to her, so he's dealt with it pretty well.

We had a nice break on that weekend, when Auntie Nancy came to visit us and Max. It's always too long between visits, so it was great to catch up with her. Max also showed off some of his new tricks before bathtime.

After dealing with our "bad week", we had a busy recovery last week. Last Wednesday, we had Salvation Army pick up our guest room furniture and the carpet cleaners come out to clean the main rooms and Owen's room, in preparation for the arrival of the new nursery furniture. Unfortunately for us, that was the day the daycare decided that Max might have pinkeye and sent him home (he didn't - he'd just rubbed sunscreen in his eye), so it was a crazy day corralling Max and trying to keep him entertained while hanging out in Mommy & Daddy's room.
On Friday, we picked up Owen's crib and dresser. Mimi and Pappaw came down to help us bring them into the house and put the crib together, but Max insisted on helping himself, to ensure things were done properly.

We'll try to post pictures of the furniture and Owen's bedding later this week. Mimi and Pappaw stuck around Friday night to watch Max to allow Jon and I to have a much needed night out (our first since May). It was great to be able to go out on an actual date. We definitely hope to have a few more of those before Owen arrives.
Saturday, we decided to venture out so Max could enjoy his first fireworks show. I've always really loved fireworks, so I was looking forward to sharing the experience with Max. The biggest part of the plan was keeping Max up past his 8pm bedtime. This entailed allowing him to watch most of Nemo (minus the "scary" parts) to keep him awake until 9:30. Max seemed much more excited about seeing the moon than the fireworks, so we ended up leaving early. He did, however, yell "Surprise" and "Yay" a few times during the show, so maybe next year he'll enjoy it more.

We wrapped up our weekend by running a few errands and hanging out around the house.

We decided to create a list of all of the words Max can say/use now. We were amazed to find out he knows about 110 words! The latest of these is "No", but not screamed or yelled - more stated casually/sarcastically. "Max, are you ready for bathtime?"... "Nah..." However, he seems to say "Nah" to most things these days, so we fear the terrible twos aren't too far away.
We didn't get a chance to take too many pictures this week or last, but we did get some decent video, which we'll try to post soon. To see the full set of photos, click here.
Have a great week, everyone!
