Moving Up, Showing Off

We decided to take it a little easier during the week after our horrifying visit to the hair torturer. We managed to relax a little, but that didn't stop things from moving inexorably forward.

For Max, the week was all about finishing out his role as a Wiggle Worm at school. This meant a full purge of everything that's disappeared over the last couple months or so.

Hey, that's where that shirt went!

For Owen, it was yet another week about us patiently trying to figure out what things he's willing to put in his mouth (besides toys, fingers, shoes, random things he finds on the ground...) so we can finally stop buying things in jars.

Will I eat? I don't know. I'm considering it. Just be patient.

…15 minutes later…

I kid, of course. He's getting better. We just have to figure out the correct order to present things and the appropriate things to keep hidden until the very last possible moment. The biggest offender on that last front is the banana, which he now seems to know by name ("nanana"). So yellow, so visible, so sticky, so delicious.

Random Nan appeasement photo! (she bought them some matching stuff)

To continue the theme of food, we took the kiddos out to a neighborhood ice cream party so Max could stuff himself with some sugar before bedtime. We took it as an opportunity to break out the wagon, which meant that Owen got his first chance to take a ride.

He found a creative way to manage his inability to dislodge his sippy from the cup holder.

You didn't see that. I did nothing.

Somehow we failed to snap any photos at the party, but that didn't deter us from capturing a little more material for what seems to be turning out to be a food blog.

About a month ago, Max asked me what one of the buildings was when we passed it on the way to school. I explained to him that it was a Chinese buffet, and from then on he kept shouting out its name as we passed it and insisting, "I like Chinese food!" We were skeptical, as he's always been averse when we took him for Asian cuisine. Eventually it came time to relent, so we took him to a larger buffet down the road. Predictably, much of the food turned out to be a bust for him, but he was extremely interested in what daddy was doing.

I want to eat with the sticks!

The novelty lasted for about three or four bites. Oh well, maybe when he's a little older.

I assure you that we didn't spend the entire week just eating.

See? Owen played in a box of balls, too!

Of course, he's not always so happy to have his photo taken...

I WILL DESTROY YOU.

Plenty of playtime, not as much screaming in a barber chair, and lots of food. I'd call that a successful week. If you want to see the rest of the photos, you can click here. I guess I should probably try to get us caught up before our big trip this week. We'll see if I can pull that off.
