Easter 2011

Astonishingly enough, I finally got this thing caught up. It's possible we'll even manage to keep it that way for a week or two, but for now I'll just bask in the glory of this temporary achievement.

Ahhhhh.

Alright, enough basking. As you all well know, last weekend was Easter. Usually this means we pack the kids up in the car and head up to Sherman or down to Houston, but there was something a little different in the cards this year.

Before we made it to the weekend we sat down in the middle of the week for a nice comfy dinner at home and...

Okay, where did you even FIND those?

As you can see from our previous post and the image above, we've abandoned the high chair in favor of a fully seated table. Owen has finally (mostly) given up on flinging his food at every opportunity and has moved on to more subtle methods of rejection, like dumping his entire plate onto the table and picking out the things he wants to eat. Much though we dislike this, I have to admit I prefer it to having the food on the floor.

His brother has also decided to take advantage of the situation.

The weather turned out to be pretty nice that evening, so we decided to take the boys down to the park for a bit of time on the slides.

Max, of course, is well versed in such things.

DSC_0206
Of course, monkey see, monkey do.

Once the boys finished messing around on the playground equipment, we decided to get out some more things to wear them entirely out.

DSC_0235
That should do it.

Owen wasn't nearly as interested in that as he was in playing his favorite outdoor game. This consists of him hearing a distant rumbling, jabbing his finger skyward and yelling...

DSC_0237
"AIRPLANE!"

I can't wait for the first time he does that in the middle of a soccer game.

As the week drew to a close, we found ourselves attending the yearly Easter parties at the kids' day care. This consists of a fairly predictable set of events.

DSC_0010
First, we fill them with sugar.

DSC_0038
Second, we lead them outdoors. Per his teacher's instruction, he "put a bubble in his mouth", which is a clever way of rendering kids unable to speak.

Third, we fill our baskets with eggs and demand to see the contents of them immediately, or in the car, or anyplace else where it's not allowed.

A few days later, we loaded the car up and headed down to visit the family for Easter. As I said, this year was a little different from before. Instead of heading to Nan and Papa's place, we worked our way out to a nice plot of land, graciously hosted by my aunt and uncle.

DSC_0085
Max found his cousins pretty quickly.

DSC_0093
…as did Owen.

DSC_0101
…who also continued proving that Papa has to work harder than that to make him smile.

Plenty of fun was had by all, with all sorts of activities for Max to engage in while Owen toddled about.

DSC_0110
First he took a swing in the hammock.

DSC_0120
Then he spent some time pretending to drive this thing around. A bit of excitement ensued when the kids figured out how to release the parking brake and started rolling away.

DSC_0136
Kyle decided to do a little practice before they took off.

DSC_0155
Max, on the other hand, was good to go. He kept telling me to go faster, which terrifies his mother.

DSC_0162
Don't worry, there was plenty for Owen to do as well.

DSC_0193
Meanwhile, out on the pond…

DSC_0213
Seriously though, Owen had a good time too.

DSC_0221
See? Fun!

Before we knew it, it was time to head out to Nan and Papa's place for dinner. This meant saying goodbye to Papa, but Owen wasn't entirely finished with him yet.

DSC_0248
At least, not finished with his hat.

DSC_0240
Stylin'.

We settled in for the night and woke up a little early to try and get ready before the boys woke up. Shortly thereafter, I noticed that the door to our bedroom was moving, but someone decided not to come through it. When I looked into the other room, Max immediately scapegoated his brother, who "wouldn't go back to sleep." Shortly thereafter, we suited them up and headed off to church.

DSC_0257
As usual, SOMEONE decided that it was an appropriate venue for EXTREMELY LOUD SCREAMING. So we took a little break outside.

DSC_0262
…which turned into a longer break…

DSC_0269
…which basically just turned into us missing church entirely…

DSC_0283
Obligatory shot of Max in his nice Sunday clothes.

We took a couple of family photos (viewable via the typical end-of-post link, as this is already pretty photo-heavy) and headed back to Nan's house for a bit.

DSC_0377
Max did as little swimming as possible in the very cold (regardless of what Nan will tell you) pool.

DSC_0391
Owen worked hard to give his mom a heart attack by getting as close as possible to the edge of the pool while throwing this ball around.

All that was left was to pack up the car and head home. Good times had by all. If you want to see the rest of the photos, you can click here. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we can keep this thing updated in the coming weeks. See you then!
