Perpetually behind appears to just be how we roll around here. I'd say it's been too busy for me to update, but I'll just admit that I've been too lazy to get it done. We did have a lot of fun in the week leading up to Father's Day, so at least we have plenty to talk about.
Early in the week, we received a nice long box in the mail that contained some very important plants for our backyard. We're trying to grow some blackberries and raspberries since our boys go through carton after carton of the things on a weekly basis. I didn't catch any photos of the plants or getting them potted (not that impressive anyway), but I did get this photo of Max helping me out.
When Friday morning arrived, Max was granted the opportunity to have a shirt out of my closet for Wear Daddy's Shirt Day at school.
He wore it the entire day, all the way up to bedtime. But before we got to that, we had a little surprise set up for the boys. Christy and I have been trying to figure out what to do with the play room closet for a while, since we just got Max's full size bed and all of the Christmas decorations out of there.
They played in it all weekend, so I guess we chose wisely. Sadly, they had to be removed in time for dinner. Luckily they weren't too upset with us. We even got Owen to show us his new face.
The weekend arrived, and we had the Sherman family down for a Father's Day dinner. Seeing as this involved me running around like a madman to cook enough fajitas for 20 people, I didn't get a chance to take many photos. Luckily I didn't miss everything.
Everyone filtered out through the rest of the evening and we called it a night. When morning came, Christy was kind enough to let me sleep in while she took the boys out to pick up some donuts. Not long after we'd scarfed those down, Max insisted that I open my Father's Day gifts. Turns out Christy got me some hamburger and hot dog bun pans (which I used tonight to great effect) along with some new tongs that will come in handy when I'm trying not to scratch up our cookware.
Before long, we'd decided to take advantage of the decent weather outside and take the boys down for their first neighborhood pool trip of the year. Max was all ready to go now that we'd procured an innertube and an inflatable alligator for him to play with. Owen had different priorities.
Don't ask about the underwear. He just found it laying around. Too bad I didn't catch a photo of him trying to put them on. The hat thing, though, is an ongoing demand in the house. Whenever we put away our shoes in the shoe closet, he looks up at the hats hanging on the door and attempts to get everyone in the house to put one on. "Daddy hat?" he'll ask, pointing to whatever he wants me to put on my head that day.
Once we'd finished splashing around (Dad and Mom in the pool means no photos), we put the boys down for their nap and relaxed for a bit. We had to prepare ourselves for the evening, as we were going out for a special dinner. Max heard us talk about wanting to go out for something special, and he was happy to provide a suggestion. "GattiTown! That's a good idea."
So we went to GattiTown. The boys got their fill of pizza, Max ran around like a pinball bouncing from game to game, and I finished up my Father's Day by listening to the boys bounce a couple of balloons around in the back seat of the car.
As far as I'm concerned, it was just what I'd wanted.
