The Long Road Behind

I believe the classic line is, "Well, at least you're having fun trying!"

I can't imagine anything more removed from reality in our case.

For many, this is a process that takes very little time. There are even those who find themselves pregnant without any sort of effort at all. Unfortunately, we found ourselves outside of the norm and wading deeper and deeper into a process that would cost more than just money.

Married couples leave each other over this. Having seen it from this side, I can understand the burden. It's not about whether she can have your baby, it's about the waiting, the stress, the disappointment. It's about living every single day for the next time you'll hear the biggest letdown of your life. Again. In my wife's case, on her birthday.

Infertility treatment is one of the worst things a healthy relationship can endure. It's a process that, without meaing to, demoralizes, dehumanizes, and downright embarasses you every step of the way. You'll find yourself angry at other pregnant couples, scorning their mere ability to bear children. At the end of it all, the whole thing almost just isn't worth it.

Moving In

To start off, my wife has indicated to me...repeatedly...that this blog is not a stage in a stand-up club. Well, not just that. It's also meant to inform people of what's gong on. With that in mind:

It's a boy!

His name is Max (just Max) Nathan!

He's due on November 23rd!

So...did you hear the one about the guy and the newt?

Week 24: Expansion

According to Wikipedia, the metric expansion of space is a key part of science's current understanding of the universe, whereby spacetime itself is described by a metric which changes over time in such a way that the spatial dimensions appear to grow or stretch as the universe gets older. This fact provides little comfort to my poor wife, who currently appears to be growing or stretching as Max gets older. You'll pay for this, science!

Tolerance

This week we found out some very good news for Christy. She passed her glucose tolerance test on the first try, so she can have as many milkshakes and cupcakes as she wants! Seems like a pretty big win for Max, too. I don't think he'd be quite so happy if he had to go on a high-veggie low sugar diet for the next few months.

So, with that out of the way, onwards to randomtown!

Still Here!

Okay, so we've been terrible bloggers lately. Somewhere between going to labor classes, working for The Man, and playing Wii Sports, we completely neglected our duty to keep everyone updated. Sorry!

Apology done. On to the update!

Little Stinker

Thanks to the efforts of my aunts and mother, Max had yet another great baby shower on Sunday. I continue to be amazed at how much stuff babies apparently need to survive. I think all we have left is diapers and bottles. The rest has been amply provided by friends and family that Max sure better appreciate once he's here!

As for the title of today's post...well, we went to the doctor again...

Under a Week

We're in the home stretch now. After more than two years of struggling and nine months of disbelief, we're officially less than one week away from the arrival of Max. It's strange to even imagine it now, that we'll be holding him in our arms so soon. I really hope we have everything ready...
